New short-term training for construction trades in Quebec

The construction sector in Quebec is expanding, and to meet the growing demand for skilled labor, four new short-term training courses will be offered from January 2024 across the province. These trainings aim to train competent workers in essential construction trades and to offer promising career opportunities.

The four training courses offered are as follows:

Carpentry-Joinery:

This training prepares participants to build, install, and repair frameworks using various materials such as wood, steel, etc.

Operation of construction equipment:

Learners will be trained to maneuver construction machinery used in the construction and maintenance of various structures such as roads, tunnels, and buildings.

Tinsmithing:

This training focuses on how to shape, assemble, and weld different tinsmithing products, as well as the installation of prefabricated metal objects, wall siding, sheet metal, and modern coverings.

Refrigeration:

Participants will learn to install, commission, maintain, repair, and optimize air conditioning and refrigeration systems, whether central, monoblock, or sectional.

These short-term courses, ranging from 4 to 6 months, will lead to a professional studies certificate (AEP), a recognized qualification for carrying out specific work functions. They are mainly intended for adults looking to acquire professional skills in the construction sector.

In addition to training, financial support is also available.

Students enrolled in short-term training courses can benefit from financial support of $750 per week of training, paid bi-weekly.

Moreover, for diplomas of vocational studies (DEP) related to these trainings, scholarships ranging from $9,000 to $15,000 are offered to students who register between October 30 and December 15, 2023, and who begin their training during this period.

Registrations will begin on October 30, 2023, and will close on December 15, 2023, with the start of the AEP courses scheduled for January 2024.
